French Earl Grey, or French Earl Grey, is a delicious variation on the well-known classic black Earl Gray tea.
Earl Grey is a black tea blend with bergamot oil. Bergamot is a small citrus fruit that can be placed not only in flavour but also in size between lemon and lime.
Bergamot oil gives a fresh sweet and sour citrus flavour to the tea with a slightly bitter note. By adding rose blossom, the French Earl Grey is created.
The rose blossom gives a refined, floral and mildly sweet taste to the tea, which combines wonderfully with the sweet and acidic bergamot.
It is not entirely clear where Earl Gray's recipe originally came from. Legend has it that, in 1830, Earl Gray received a black tea with bergamot from Chinese diplomats in gratitude.
However, it is not until 50 years later that the tea is actually advertised as Earl Gray to the wider public. At that time, bergamot was often added to mask the lesser taste of lower quality teas.
Our French Earl Grey has a soft Ceylon base complemented with fresh sweet and sour bergamot flavour and floral overtones.
The Ceylon used contains little tannin. This makes the tea not bitter, even after a long brewing time.
For 1 cup of tea you need 1 teaspoon of French Earl Grey. Use a tea infuser or tea filter to brew the tea.
Then let it steep for 3-5 minutes at 95ºC.
Earl Grey tea is a black loose leaf tea to which bergamot oil has been added. The classic Earl Grey tea is made from black tea leaves. But the black tea used can be anything from Ceylon to Assam to African. It can be a single estate black tea or a blend of black teas from around the world. Het Kleinste Huis uses Ceylon for its Earl Grey Blends.
Black tea, like green tea, has a number of health benefits. Some examples:
Bergamot helps to lower bad cholesterol or LDL - cholesterol and helps prevent cardiovascular disease.

Did you know that tea can also be wonderfully combined with savory foods?
I put it to the test with a delicious piece of old Cantal cheese, brought from the beautiful Auvergne in France. Cantal cheese has a strong taste. Spicy, slightly salty and with full tones in which a creamy, almost vanilla-like hint can be detected. Curious how it tastes in combination with an Oolong from Tanzania?
I know, the real wine purists will find what I'm about to describe a sacrilege... Chardonnay with a purple hue.
A nice summer twist on this white wine. All you need is a few blue ice cubes and Chardonnay. Your friends will be impressed. Curious how to make Chardonnay Violet? Then read on..
Currently one of my favorite tea drinks this summer... Chilled Matcha Latte! Matcha helps to boost your energy and concentration, while also giving you a sense of calm and clarity.
Quick to make and healthy too! Read more about how you can easily make a Chilled Matcha Latte at home.
Do you want to prepare loose leaf tea at home?
That's very simple! To make loose leaf tea you only need a few basic elements. Tea leaves, hot water and something to put your tea in.
However, there are a few things that need some extra attention, such as the temperature of the water and the brewing time of the tea. We've listed it all here for you!
Last week one of our nicest customers, Chloe, came by for a pleasant conversation at our tea table.
Chloe started a podcast last year where she interviews people who play a role in her life. Today it was my turn and I was allowed to elaborate for more than half an hour about one of my great passions ... tea. Follow our conversation on Spotify!
I think every parent encounters this at some point. Isn't there a better alternative to lemonade or fruit juice for your kids? Even the healthy drinks are often still full of sugars and artificial additives. Tasty, but not really healthy. Offering only water is not always an option either. As a mother of two young daughters, I was always faced with this dilemma. Fortunately, as the owner of a tea shop, the solution was close at hand!
