Tarry Lapsang Souchong

A slightly heavier black tea with a strong smoke flavor. Lapsang Souchong is originally from the Fujian province of China.

After oxidation, this tea is dried in bamboo baskets over burning pine or cypress wood. The smoke flavor is developed here.

The word 'Tarry' indicates that this is the strongest form of this type of tea. Souchong refers to the fourth and fifth leaves of the tea plant. These leaves are generally found on the underside of the tea plant and are coarser and contain less auromatic elements than the younger leaves.

Unlike other teas, the Lapsang Souchong does not become bitter when strongly brewed.

The tea tastes great in combination with spicy food, strong cheeses, whiskey and smoked fish or meat.
