Ginger is the root of the ginger plant, the so-called Zingiber officinale.
Ginger has been used as a spice and herbal remedy for many generations, especially in Asian, Indian and Arab cultures.
Is ginger healthy?
Ginger is very nutritious and fits well with a healthy lifestyle! Ginger contains minerals such as manganese, potassium, magnesium and copper and is rich in antioxidants and vitamins such as B5 and B6.
Multiple medicinal properties are attributed to ginger. It could have a positive effect on indigestion and nausea, it could be anti-inflammatory, it could have a protective effect in case of diabetes and it would help improve memory. Ginger is also said to have a warming effect and stimulate blood circulation.
Ginger in the kitchen
Ginger is a versatile spice and can be cut, grated or dried. Dried ginger is sharper than fresh ginger. Ginger has a fairly strong, but pleasant taste for enthusiasts. It is one of the most consumed spices in the world and plays an important part in Dutch cuisine as well.
Ginger is used in many products. There is ginger beer, ginger jam, ginger balls and ginger syrup. And of course is there is tea with ginger!
But you can also make tea with dried ginger. The taste of the ginger is then more intense.
